THE USE OF PROJECT DATA ANALYTICS IN THE WIDER PROJECT DELIVERY COMMUNITY:

Project Data Analytics, at its simplest, is defined as the use of past and current project data to assist in making effective decisions on project delivery. This includes descriptive project data analytics, such as presenting data in the most effective format for decision-making predictive project data analytics which involves the use of historic data to predict future project performance.

The author of this research is being sponsored by the Association of Project Management in conjunction with the Universities of Sheffield, Manchester and Southampton to undertake research in this area. The first output from this is to publish a pathfinder report entitled ‘Project Data Analytics: The State of the Art and Science’ which is highlighting the current experience of Project Data Analytics in the project delivery community.

AIM: The aim of this research is to:

  • Make an illustrative comparison of the experience of using Project Data Analytics within HMG and the wider project delivery community.

  • Use this comparison to generate a number of research questions that could be followed in applying Project Data Analytics to HMG project delivery capability
